Automatic Reimbursement Fact Sheet
Non-Supervisory Merit Spending
Account
To avoid confusion regarding which claims can be automatically reimbursed
through your medical spending account, and to avoid duplicate payment of claims,
please read the following:
- Provided your medical and
medical flex spending account have the same identification number you may
enroll for automatic reimbursement. When you sign up for Automatic
Reimbursement, all claims that are processed by a medical plan offered through
Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa will be automatically
applied to your medical spending account. Medical claims incurred by you (or
your spouse or dependents, if they are covered under your contract), will be
included in this program when you are covered under a plan offered through
Wellmark.
Your claims will be processed by the medical plan, and any remaining
out-of-pocket costs will be applied to your medical spending account.
Do not submit paper claims to the Wellmark Flexible Benefits Department
if these same claims will be submitted to your Wellmark medical insurance.
- If you have selected medical coverage from a company
other than Wellmark or you use an alternate identification number your
unreimbursed medical expenses will not be automatically submitted to
your Medical Spending Account. To receive reimbursement, please submit a claim
form with documentation of your eligible medical expenses.
- All dental, vision or over-the-counter purchases must be
submitted with a claim form and required documentation.
- You should not sign up for Automatic Reimbursement if
you or any dependent covered under your medical contract has other (duplicate)
coverage. Duplicate payment could occur, in violation of Internal Revenue
Service regulations governing Medical Spending Accounts.
- If you have a “double-spouse” contract (i.e., both you
and your spouse are employees and are eligible to participate in the Flexible
Spending Account), only the contract holder is eligible to participate in
Automatic Reimbursement. Since we currently use Social Security numbers to
match your unreimbursed expenses to your medical spending account, we are
unable to pull expenses from a contract that is listed under a different
Social Security number.
