CCAMPIS

“Campus Childcare Access Means Parent in School” Program

For ISU Undergraduate Student Families with Children

What is the Campus Childcare Access Means Parents in School program  (CCAMPIS)?

CCAMPIS provides financial assistance to ISU undergraduate student families to help purchase quality campus child care services while they are in class, working, or studying outside their homes.  Awards are determined annually though the Office of Child Care Resources.  This program is supported through a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Who is eligible to apply for CCAMPIS assistance?

All ISU undergraduate students (full and part-time) with young children that receive a Pell grant or are Pell grant eligible may apply.  Only one assistance award per family is available.

What are goals of CCAMPIS?

§         To financially assist ISU student parents with child care costs so that they can access high quality campus child care services both full-time and part-time to attend class, work and study.

§         To financially support occasional and mildly-ill care for student families to increase student class attendance and ultimate academic success.

§         To provide child-rearing and family information for student parents to help them succeed and strengthen parenting skills.

§         To lower the debt burden upon graduation and give student parents a greater chance for financial success.

What are the ages of children served by the CCAMPIS program?

Children from 6 weeks old through kindergarten and children enrolled in the after school child care programs through grade six are eligible.  Children with documented special needs may ask the OCCR for special consideration.

What kind of child care must be used to receive CCAMPIS funds?

A child must attend one of the campus child care centers to receive CCAMPIS funds.

How will eligibility be determined?

CCAMPIS is based on the student’s financial need, including such factors as:

  • Total family income (taxable and non-taxable); student must provide verification of income

  • Government assistance (such as federal financial aid)

  • Child care costs, ages, and number of children in care

  • Eligibility for other forms of child care assistance

  • Other resources and benefits such as child support, parental assistance, student assets and/or non-working parent/partner/family member at home

  • Academic credit load/student status

CCAMPIS is intended to serve low-income student families.  Student families with the highest needs, as determined by the OCCR, will receive a higher financial assistance if the application deadline date is met.  CCAMPIS funds of approximately $78,000 are budgeted for this project.

Are there any additional requirements of student parents?

Yes.  The CCAMPIS grant program would like to help support student parents by providing child-rearing and family information to help them succeed and strengthen parenting skills.

§         The University Family Resource Program will provide resources, arrange workshops and lead discussion groups for parents on a semester basis.  Additional experiences to be involved with will be announced each semester.  Parents will be asked for input on activities.   Each parent is required to attend at least one program each semester.

Student parents are asked to complete regular program evaluations.  This is essential for continued federal funding of the program.
