General Class Description

Under general supervision, applies knowledge and skill at the journeyman level to apply insulation and other coverings to pipes, ducts, tanks and other items.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Insulates steam distribution systerns, hot water tanks, cold water lines, chill water lines, drain lines, duct lines, disposal lines, and other related lines using glass, wool, mud, insulation paste, steel wool, tin, plastic, and Gilsulate insulation. 
  2. Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings. 
  3. Assists in directing the work of apprentices 
  4. Performs or assists in the performance of the duties of Plumber and Steamfitter, as required.
